Workshop - Kingfishers - Autumn Colours

We feel Autumn is one of the best times of year to photograph this beautiful little bird for a number of reasons. Firstly and most importantly they will have just finished moulting and will be looking on top form. The breeding season takes it toll on the birds and can look very tatty in August so moult once they have finished breeding. Secondly the light in October is incredible on the pond - the last light of the day shines perfectly through the gap between the hide and vegetation on the left hand side lighting up the perches with an orange glow. Regardless of this the sun this time of year is much lower in the sky so lights the birds at a more favourable angle for photography at any point in the day. Lastly the backgrounds in autumn are second to none - the natural colours autumn throws up range from yellows in dying leaves to reds in berry filled bushes with lots in-between.

These workshops are fully guided throughout the day. Our guide will be on hand to assist you with your camera recommending settings and positioning to help you get the most out of the session. Our aim is to run through multiple situations with the birds both perched and diving against an autumnal backdrop.

Standard equipment for this workshop - telephoto lenses from 3-600mm and a remote release is handy for the diving images.
